God honoured His covenants with Israel and His prophetic promises of salvation	¤ ... the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. by sending His only Son,	¤ The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.	John 1:14
Jesus, into the world.	¤ For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.	John 1:17-18
Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary,	¤ But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Jesus was anointed as God’s Messiah and empowered by the Holy Spirit,	¤ When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” ¤ [Jesus] went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. inaugurating God’s kingdom reign on earth,	¤ After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near (or “at hand” – NASB). Repent and believe the good news!” ¤ But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you. ¤ Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within [or “among”] you.”	Mark 1:14-15 Luke 11:20 Luke 17:20-21
overpowering the reign of Satan by resisting temptation,	¤ Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone.’” The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’” The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus answered, “It says: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. preaching the good news of salvation,	¤ But [Jesus] said, “I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.”	Luke 4:43
healing the sick	¤ When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.	Luke 4:40
casting out demons	¤ Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ.	Luke 4:41
and raising the dead.	¤ Then [Jesus] went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.” This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country. Gathering His disciples,	¤ As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.	Mark 1:16-18
He reconstituted God’s people	¤ Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve – designating them apostles – that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.	Mark 3:13-15
as His Church	¤ ... on this rock I will build my church ...	Matthew 16:18
to be the instrument of His kingdom.	¤ When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. ¤ After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, “... Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God is near you.’ ... After dying for the sins of the world,	¤ The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! ¤ [Jesus said] “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” ¤ This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. Jesus was raised from the dead on the third day,	¤ [Jesus] then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. ¤ For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. fulfilling the covenant of blessing given to Abraham.	¤ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.“ He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. In His sinless, perfect life	¤ You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. ¤ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet was without sin. Jesus met the demands of the law	¤ Consequently, just as the result of one trespass [of Adam] was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness [of Christ] was justification that brings life for all men. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.	Romans 5:18-19
and in His atoning death on the cross	¤ [Jesus] himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.	1 Peter 2:24
He took God’s judgment for sin	¤ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” ¤ God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.	Galatians 3:13 2 Corinthians 5:21
which we deserve as law-breakers.	¤ The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, ... ¤ Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. ¤ All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. ¤ God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. By His death on the cross He also disarmed the demonic powers.	¤ When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the [demonic] powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.	Colossians 2:13-15
The covenant with David was fulfilled in Jesus’ birth from David’s house,	¤ A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham: ...	Matthew 1:1
His Messianic ministry,	¤ “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us – to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, ... ¤ But the angel said to [the shepherds], “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. ¤ As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”	Luke 1:68-72 Luke 2:10-11 Matthew 9:27
His glorious resurrection from the dead,	¤ But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. David said about him: “I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.”	Acts 2:24-28
His ascent into heaven and His present rule at the right hand of the Father.	¤ “Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’ Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”	Acts 2:29-36
As God’s Son and David’s heir,	¤ Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God – the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. He is the eternal Messiah-King,	¤ In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.	Hebrews 1:1-3
advancing God’s reign throughout every generation and throughout the whole earth today.	¤ Then the end will come, when [Christ] hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. ¤ ... and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. ¤ Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! We believe that the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Church at Pentecost in power,	¤ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” ¤ When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.	Acts 1:8 Acts 2:1-4
baptising believers into the Body of Christ	¤ For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body – whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free – and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.	1 Corinthians 12:13
and releasing the gifts of the Spirit to them.	¤ There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.	1 Corinthians 12:4-7
The Spirit brings the permanent indwelling presence of God to us	¤ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. ... he lives with you and will be in you.	John 14:16-17
for spiritual worship,	¤ Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. ¤ Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.	Romans 12:1 Ephesians 5:18-20
personal sanctification,	¤ For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.	Romans 8:3-4
building up the Church,	¤ ... Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church. ¤ What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening (“edification” – NASB) of the church.	1 Corinthians 14:12 1 Corinthians 14:26
gifting us for ministry,	¤ Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.	Romans 12:4-6
and driving back the kingdom of Satan	¤ But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you. ¤ The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.	Luke 11:20 1 John 3:8b
by the evangelization of the world through proclaiming the word of Jesus	¤ Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. ... And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. and doing the works of Jesus.	¤ I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. ¤ I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done – by the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. ¤ For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ	¤ You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.	Romans 8:9-11
and that He is our abiding Helper,	¤ But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor [“Comforter, Advocate, Helper”] will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.	John 16:7
Teacher,	¤ But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.	John 14:26
and Guide.	¤ But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you. ¤ ... those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.	John 16:13-15 Romans 8:14
We believe in the filling or empowering of the Holy Spirit,	¤ “I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” ¤ After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.	Luke 24:49 Acts 4:31
often a conscious experience,	¤ When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” ¤ While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”	Acts 8:18-19 Acts 19:1-2
for ministry today.	¤ My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power. ¤ But we have this treasure [the gospel] in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. ¤ Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: ... in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; ...	1 Corinthians 2:4-5 2 Corinthians 4:7 2 Corinthians 6:4-7
We believe in the present ministry of the Spirit	¤ “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.” ¤ These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. ...”	Joel 2:28-29 Acts 2:15-17
and in the exercise of all of the biblical gifts of the Spirit.	¤ Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. ... All these [gifts] are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. ¤ Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. ¤ I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. ¤ Do not put out the Spirit’s fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. We practice the laying on of hands for the empowering of the Spirit,	¤ When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. ¤ When Paul placed his hands on [the new converts in Ephesus], the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. for healing,	¤ Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured. ¤ Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. ¤ ... “they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”	Mark 1:41-42 Luke 6:18b-19 Mark 16:18
and for recognition and empowering of those whom God has ordained to lead and serve the Church.	¤ In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off. ¤ Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you. ¤ For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. We believe that the Holy Spirit inspired the human authors of the Holy Scripture	¤ All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. ¤ Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. ¤ We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. ¤ But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.	2 Timothy 3:16-17 2 Peter 1:20-21 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 John 14:26
so that the Bible is without error	¤ The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it – he will be blessed in what he does.
